After years of hearing the horror stories from our customers we decided to do our own research about CarMax. CarMax sells lots of cars all over the country. We have all seen the commercials of customers going to CarMax to sell their vehicle, Right? Well let’s figure out why so many people sell their vehicles to CarMax

1. It’s Convenient to sell your car to CarMax?
YCST- Well from our perspective it’s actually a lot more difficult. The reason we say that is because, you have to go to them. How many people have seen the commercial where the lady or the man is at the birthday party, and then they get up and follow the CarMax Start sign. Well this viewer has. REALLY? - So I should get up and leave the party so that I can sell my car to CarMax? NOT Me said this viewer. ​YCST- So how about we address the most important aspect of a CarMax purchase transaction, or any transaction. THE MONEY, RIGHT?!!! In our research we found that CarMax uses Bank Drafts to pay for all of their purchases for individuals wanting to sell their vehicle. As consumers ourselves at YCST we had never heard the term Bank Draft. Most of us confused the word Bank Draft as a CASHIERS CHECK. This is not the case as we began to learn. A cashier's check is guaranteed by a bank, drawn on the bank's own funds and signed by a cashier of the bank. Generally called there signature cashier, or maybe even a manager of the branch. Cashier's checks are treated as guaranteed funds because the bank, rather than the purchaser, is responsible for paying the amount. I am not sure if you were aware of this, but a bank draft is NOT GUARANTEED! We went a step further. We googled the words BANK DRAFT CARMAX. What we found was nothing short of Consumer Fraud based on the words of so many consumers, and consumer websites. We found hundreds of examples of Consumers just like you that unexpectedly had to learn after they sold their vehicle to CarMax that the Bank Draft that CarMax gives you has many issues. Some of these consumers had the Bank Draft cancelled by CarMax. FACT- Cashier’s Checks can only have a stop payment put on them if both the Remitter and the Receiver agree. FACT- Bank Drafts can be cancelled by CarMax for any reason, and most banks will not allow you to deposit the Bank Draft. Or at minimum will place a long hold on your funds until they are guaranteed the funds available for collection. YCST was unable to find any banks, not one national or local bank that would allow a consumer to cash a Bank Draft. All of these innocent consumers turned over there vehicles to CarMax, and what they received from CarMax was a form of tender that they thought could be cashed, or was funds immediately available. Each and every horror story was too unbelievable to fathom. Yet each and every example that we have listed below are just some of the tragic examples of consumers just like you that were unaware. Please, please do your own fact checking before you consummate a transaction to sell your vehicle to CarMax. We wanted to know so we called multiple CarMax offices, and spoke to their representatives directly. Each and every one of their representatives was crystal clear on how they pay for the transaction. Unfortunately, what they didn’t tell us was how many consumers have been financially affected by this seemingly innocent transaction with such a reputable company, or so they thought.

4. Will CarMax pay me Cash for my vehicle?
​YCST- In all of our research we could not find one example of where CarMax or any other Car dealer was willing to pay for your vehicle in hard cold Cash.
